iBouquiniste for Android — Privacy policy

Local reading

You can read books stored on your device without creating an account. The app stores your imported books, reading positions, bookmarks, notes and settings in its local application storage. Your book text and notes are not sent to our server merely because you read a local book.

Optional cloud account and synchronization

If you register or sign in, we process your name, email address, authentication information and account identifier to provide and protect your account. When you enable cloud features or transfer a book, we process the files you upload, their titles and authors, and the associated reading positions, bookmarks and notes required by the synchronization options you select. We also process your storage quota and existing subscription status to provide cloud storage. The current Android app does not accept in-app subscription payments.

Technical diagnostics

The Google Play version automatically sends coded technical diagnostics to our server to identify crashes, freezes, synchronization failures and performance problems. These records include a random installation identifier, device model and manufacturer, operating-system, app and WebView versions, event times, numeric operation and performance information, error types and application code locations. They do not include passwords, authentication tokens, book text or annotation text. The detailed support journal used in the developer's separate personal testing build is not included in the Google Play build.

Network services

Connections to our cloud and diagnostics services use HTTPS encryption. Our servers also receive the network address and normal request metadata needed to deliver and protect these services. We use the information to operate the service, maintain accounts, synchronize content, diagnose errors and prevent abuse. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. Our hosting providers process data on our behalf. We do not provide personal data to third parties for their independent advertising or marketing.

OPDS catalogs and speech

When you access an external OPDS catalog or follow a website link, that service receives the requests you make and applies its own privacy policy. Text-to-speech is provided by the Android engine you choose. Offline voices work locally; a network voice may send text to that engine's provider. Available voices and network use depend on the engine installed on your device.

Retention and your choices

Local books and settings remain on your device until you remove them or clear the app's data. Account data are retained while needed to provide the account, unless you request deletion. Server copies of books are kept for synchronization, not as an independent backup or permanent archive. After a paid period ends, copies beyond the free allowance have no guaranteed retention period and may be removed when necessary to free resources, protect security or comply with the law. Failures can also cause data loss. Keep your own originals; see the User agreement. We record the agreement version, language and time when you accept it during registration or web checkout. Technical diagnostic history is retained for troubleshooting and does not currently have automatic expiry. You can contact us to request access, correction or deletion of your information. We may need to verify account ownership before handling a request. We will explain any data that must be retained for security, legal or accounting obligations.

Delete your account and data

Use the account deletion page to request deletion of your cloud account and associated data. The same link is available on the app's cloud sign-in and cloud settings screens. Removing the app alone does not delete your cloud account.

Children

This service is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
